Two more swine flu deaths take toll to 18

Nashik: Two more patients lost their lives to the swine flu on Wednesday. The disease has claimed 18 lives in Nashik district since January 1 this year.According to health officials as many as 130 patients suffering from the disease were cured and sent home.“Two persons died in rural areas of the district during the past five days. One each from Niphad and Malegaon who were admitted in Civil Hospital in serious conditions succumbed to the virus,” the officials added.Currently, the numbers of patients admitted at the civil hospital stood at 214 of which the 148 were tested positive for swine flu. The timely action and medication given to the patients has seen more 130 patients curing from the disease.There are 23 patients admitted at the Civil Hospital in the isolation ward and are being treated, while one person has been admitted to ICU because of his serious condition.The two patients who succumbed to the virus were identified as Sandeep Solse, a resident of Shirasgaon village in Niphad taluka and Suresh Thorat, a resident of Malegaon. With the death of Solse the total numbers swine flu-related deaths in the Niphad taluka has risen to five.Solse was admitted in the hospital for the treatment of pneumonia on September 8, but as his condition worsened, he was put on ventilator before he died on Wednesday.Thorat, also admitted to the hospital on complains of breathing problem on September 10, was put on ventilator, and breathed his last on Wednesday.As per the statistics presented by the Civil Hospital, Niphad taluka has witnessed the highest numbers of deaths due to the disease while Malegaon has registered the first death on Wednesday.“It is advised to avoid proximity in the areas where there is huge rush – especially given the kind of weather prevailing. It is festivities and the people are likely to come together at public places. But precautionary measures could help prevent the disease,” a doctors from the hospital said.Meanwhile, the NMC officials said, total 46 patients have tested positive since January in the city. 20 patients were tested positive in this month alone.“We have already started raising awareness about swine flu among people. We are putting up hoardings at various locations across the city to create awareness and the preventive measures people need to take,” said NMC officials.With the ongoing Ganpati festival, the NMC officials advised city residents to take precautions while going to crowded areas.NMC health officials have suggested that people wash their hands and wear clean clothes.“If people are suffering from fever immediately after a cold, then they should immediately visit a doctor,” officials said.Last year 264 patients were tested positive for swine flu positive in the city, out of which 32 had died.
