Third bat found at elementary school tests positive for rabies.

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – A test on a third bat found dead at a Frankfort elementary school has come back positive for rabies.

The Franklin County Health Department says 10 bats were discovered at Hearn Elementary School last month.

Five of the bats that were discovered in the attic of the school were tested this week.

The health department says the Kentucky State Lab confirmed one tested positive for rabies.

Five other bats were tested earlier this month and two had rabies.

Hearn Elementary School temporarily closed so maintenance crews could go through the school and fill any small holes the bats could get into.

The health department says it continues to work closely with Franklin County Schools to make sure bats are kept out of the school.
