SAN ANTONIO -- The San Antonio Water System says a well on the far West side has tested positive for E. coli bacteria.

The well is located near Bear Creek Street between Loop 1604 and W. Military. SAWS says it will investigate the possible source of the bacteria, disinfect the well, and conduct further testing.

Raw water is water from a well before disinfection and before entering the distribution system, according to a press release. All raw water is disinfected before being distributed to customers for use.

SAWS says it is not necessary to boil or treat drinking water.

This month so far, SAWS has collected more than 190 water samples from its water system and none of them have revealed an E. coli presence, according to a news release.
