Semi-trailer carrying paper catches fire on I-72 overpass

NEW BERLIN (WICS/WRSP) — A semi-trailer carrying paper caught fire on the I-72 overpass near the New Berlin exit Tuesday afternoon.

Berlin Fire Department said the driver of the vehicle took an exit to stay away from the fields.

The driver was able to get unhooked from the trailer, so the cab is still intact, according to officials.

The driver was transporting paper and cardboard at the time of the incident.

One side of the overpass is blocked, but traffic can still go through on the other side.

Officials said the closed portion of the overpass could last for a few hours, due to the cleanup of the scene.
