The Waco-McLennan County Public Health District has released more information about the recent Legionnaires’ Disease outbreak in a Lacy Lakeview hotel.

The Health Department has seen seven confirmed cases in the last two years.

The Fairfield Inn and Suites in Lacy Lakeview had two reports of the disease in July, which prompted further investigation into the outbreak.

Overall, investigators found seven cases between August 2016 until August 2018. The disease is caused by bacteria found in large bodies of water. The bacteria then grows in shower heads and sinks.

Inspectors took about 100 samples from swimming pools, hot tubs, ice machines and guest rooms at the facility. Two samples tested positive from a guest room in April and a hot tub back in July.

This is just one of the presentations the Waco City Council reviewed during their workshop meeting.

A review of the City Lead Ordinance and LED light displays are also on the City Council’s agenda for Tuesday night.
