Wendy's on Prospect forced to stop service after inspection

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCCU) — A local Wendy's restaurant was forced to stop service after officials said it posed a danger to public health.

The Wendy’s on Prospect Avenue seems to be temporarily closed after an inspection. A sign on the door from the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District notified the public that the restaurant was found to have violations. Fox Champaign reached out to the district, but the spokesperson could not give comment right away, but Fox Champaign found the report online. The report said the business got a critical score and it was related to uncontrolled foodborne illness risk factors.

“We've always liked Wendy's and we've eaten here before, but I never had any problems with it when I went there. I hate seeing something like this happen to a business,” customer Robert Hieronymus said.

The Wendy’s located on Neil Street permanently closed a few weeks ago and has a sign that reads the building is available for lease and nothing specifying if the closure is health-related.

C-U Public Health said when it comes to violations that would cause someone to become ill or injured, there needs to be some kind of immediate correction from the business. The district said food establishments like Wendy's usually have two to three unannounced routine inspections a year. No word yet on when, or if, the Wendy's on Prospect will reopen.

A third Wendy's on Cunningham Avenue in Urbana is operating as normal.
