Flu season is next month, but doctors are already seeing early cases of the virus in Baton Rouge.

“We’ve actually had a few cases here and there for the past two weeks,” said Dr. Michelle Flechas, M.D. for Our Lady of the Lake.

Flu shots are now being offered in several locations by “Our Lady of The Lakes” Medical Hospital in several locations in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas. You can find them here.

Last year flu shots were 10% effective, but Dr. Flechas says that shouldn’t stop people from getting protected.

“The process to make vaccines starts back in March,” said Dr. Flechas. “In march, [experts] get the four strains and in April they start isolating strains for them to start producing the vaccines for it to be shipped in September.”

If you are starting to sneeze, cough, and feel tight muscle aches doctors are urging people to seek medical attention immediately.

Tips to prevent the flu and exposing it to others include:

1. Avoid close contact.

2. Stay home when you’re sick.

3. Cover your mouth and nose.

4. Wash your hands.
