Doctors, nurses at Majhgavan health centre tested positive for malaria
Bareilly: Doctors and nurses at the community health centre in Majhgavan, the worst affected with malaria, have started testing positive for the disease. A staff nurse here has been diagnosed with the deadly plasmodium falciparum (PF) malaria, while two doctors and another nurse have been found infected with plasmodium vivax (PV) malaria, in the past one week.
As many as 7,065 cases of PF and 13,805 cases of PV were detected in the district till Thursday.
Dr Manas Maheshwari, Dr Sushil Verma and nurse Priyanka were diagnosed with PV, while staff nurse Anju was found infected with PF. Officials said that though the four were deployed at Majhgavan CHC, they used to visit affected villages to see patients.
Of the total 433 fresh cases of PF reported on Thursday, 179 were from Majhgavan block. Dr Vaibav Rathore, medical officer in-charge, Majhgavan CHC, said, “As the cases of malaria continue to be reported from our block, the number of teams visiting the affected villages has been increased from seven to 10.”
Dr Vineet Shukla, chief medical officer, said, “The situation is under control. 1,27,484 cases of fever have been reported till now and of these, we have conducted rapid diagnostic tests of 1,03,634 persons. However, out of this, 7,065 cases of PF and 13,805 cases of PV have come to light. We have been sending teams in affected villages for treatment while fogging and spraying of larvicidal is underway.”
On Thursday, a total of 78 teams visited 78 villages across the district and screened 6,624 patients. Fogging was conducted in 14 villages, while larvicidal spraying was done in 73 villages on Thursday. In the past one month, 46 persons have died of fever. However, the health department claimed that 25 died due to fever.
