CLUB MAC OUTBREAK

Shocking picture show chefs clearing RAW SEWAGE from drains just before dinner service at Spanish hotel where dozens of British tots caught hand, foot and mouth

The stomach-churning snap was taken at the Club Mac resort where several kids have been left with painful rashes after catching the highly contagious bug

THIS is the shocking moment CHEFS at a Spanish hotel rocked by a hand, foot and mouth outbreak appear to clear RAW SEWAGE from drains - just before serving dinner.

The stomach-churning image was captured earlier this month at the Club Mac resort in Alcudia, Majorca, where several Scottish tots have caught the highly contagious illness and suffered painful rashes and blisters.

As more cases come to light, a former guest has revealed she witnessed kitchen staff cleaning up sewage – just thirty minutes before serving food.

Ann Marie Lamb, from Ireland, spent ten days with her children at the resort and took this picture around 5.30pm on September 12.

She said: "This photo was taken from my balcony on the first floor of the Jupiter building.

"It was safe to say we didn't eat in the hotel our last couple of days."

It comes after horrified Glasgow mum Jodie McMaster, 28, told how her 18-month-old daughter Spencer was left violently sick towards the end of her first holiday.

Jodie – who stayed at the hotel between September 8 and 15 – described the conditions at the hotel restaurants as “horrific” and claimed she and her family were forced to get up and leave one premises because it smelled so bad.

She said: “The food was terrible, even under-cooked sometimes. We stuck to one of three restaurants in the resort because it was the best of a bad bunch.

“We went into one restaurant and had to get up and leave because it smelled of wet dog. It was horrific.

“The cleaners wouldn’t change the sheets until we had to ask them.

“I’m beyond furious now. At first I was worried and upset. But now that more families have got in touch with me, I’m raging that this is happening to their poor babies.”

Zarona Smith, also from Glasgow, claimed yesterday the hotel doctor at Club Mac brushed off her 17-month-old son Carlos’ illness as a “teething rash” caused by a reaction to the chlorine in the pool.

The youngster was left with agonising sores from their holiday in early September but it wasn’t properly treated until the family returned home to Scotland.

She said: “The doctor there told us it was one of the worst cases of hand-foot-and-mouth disease that he’d ever seen.

“He said we shouldn’t have even been able to fly home.”

Earlier this week, Danielle Macintyre, 25, from Glasgow, spoke of her horror after both her daughters contracted the illness at Club Mac.

Dad Gareth Garmson, 34, from Birmingham, hit out at Jet2 after two-year-old son Curtis caught the bug two days into their holiday.

Speaking on the outbreak this week, a spokesperson for Jet2 said: “We are aware of a small number of cases of hand-foot-and-mouth at the Club Mac Hotel in Alcudia, and we have briefed our team on how to spot and prevent the spread of the illness.

“We would like to assure our customers that their health and safety is our number one priority, and we work closely with all hotels to ensure that health and safety standards meet the very high requirements that we and our customers expect.”

The Scottish Sun online approached Club Mac for comment.

The hotel released a statement saying they were aware of the hand, foot and mouth outbreak - but did not address the sewage issue.

The statement read: "We are aware of a small number of cases of hand-foot-and-mouth at the Club Mac Hotel in Alcudia and we’re working with our resort teams and customers to do everything possible to reduce the spread of this highly contagious viral infection.

"There is no truth whatsoever in the suggestion that we have had cases since May. In May one of the tour operator offices prepared a hand foot and mouth template for use in Mallorca if required, and the preparation date was displayed on the bottom of the poster.

"This has led to some assuming that the poster and issue had been in situ since May. This is not true. We care about our customers and take the health, safety and wellbeing of our guests seriously."
