Following his death, social media triggered panic among the public by spreading the news that the death was due to Nipah virus.

Mujeeb’s wife is also under treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College. Suspecting Nipah infection, Mujeeb’s funeral was held under strict observation of the health department. The officials collected fluid of Mujeeb and his wife and sent it for lab test to Manipal Virology Institute.

Meanwhile, Kozhikode district medical officer Dr V Jayasree has given an explanation on the rumours on Nipah in the district on Saturday. She stated that the news which spread on social media is baseless and currently there is no confirmed case of Nipah.
