10 Pangasinan areas in dengue watchlist

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan, Philippines — Three cities and seven towns in Pangasinan have been placed in the dengue watchlist after 25 persons died of the mosquito-borne disease since January this year. 

In a report dated Sept. 24, the provincial health office said that among the provinces included in  the dengue watchlist are Urdaneta City with 501 cases; San Carlos City with 382; Pozorrubio, 348; Alaminos City, 322; Mangaldan, 310; Bayambang, 278; Asingan, 276; Binmaley, 260; Mapandan, 226, and San Manuel, 214.

Dagupan City, which posted 316 cases for the same period, was not included in the watchlist,  being an independent component city and outside the jurisdiction of the provincial health.

The youngest dengue patient is a two-year-old boy while the oldest is an 86-year-old woman.

The report said that there have been  6,231 cases with 25 deaths from January this year.

The figure posted an increase of 87 percent compared to the same period last year with 3,331 cases and nine deaths. 

Two each died in Anda, Lingayen, Mapandan, San Carlos City, San Fabian, Pozorrubio, Sison and Urdaneta City.

One death each was recorded in Asingan, Balungao, Bayambang, Binmaley, Bugallon, Mangaldan, Rosales and San Quintin as well as in Dagupan City.

The rise of dengue cases in Pangasinan was noted during the months of June with 564; July with 1,685; August, 1,982, and September, 611.

Most of the patients are between five and 19 years old and composed of 1,928 men and 1,672 women.
