Free Meningococcal B vaccination for SA children

South Australian children have started receiving free Meningococcal B vaccinations under a push to protect them from the deadly disease.
From today, the State Government is providing the vaccine free to all children under four - one of the highest risk age groups.
Previously, it cost parents up to $500 to vaccinate their child against the potentially fatal strain.
Despite the level of demand, SA Health told 9NEWS there's no danger of a vaccine shortage.
From February, the immunisation program will be extended to include students in Years 10 and 11, as well as those aged 17 to 21.
SA Health estimates the program will prevent 12 cases of Meningococcal B each year and one death every two years.
Since 2000, there has been 14 Meningococcal B deaths in South Australia.
The Health Minister is yet to release the costings of the vaccination program but says it will cost significantly more than the $25 million pledged by the previous government.
