Dengue cases in Capital rises to 1,091 this year: SDMC

Adding 305 fresh cases to the existing number last week, this year the total number of Dengue cases in the national Capital has risen to 1,091. With this, dengue has already surpassed malaria, suggests the recent report released by South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday.

According to report, out of 305 fresh cases of dengue, 138 belonged to Delhi while 167 were acquired from the other states. As far as Malaria is concerned, 108 fresh cases of were recorded in the capital last week taking the total number to 602.

Noticeably, the doctors had already warned about the imminent situation weeks ago. Talking to The Pioneer Dr Atul Kakar, Vice Chairman, Department of Medicine, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital had said that dengue is a post rains phenomenon and rises suddenly every year after heavy rains and subsequent water- logging.

He said that the city may witness more cases of vector borne diseases in coming month. “Every year in the month of September and October, the cases of dengue record a sudden rise,” he said.

Nevertheless, 1, 50,245 legal notices have been sent and 21,050 prosecutions have been made by the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) this year so far.

Also, more than 1, 80,000 houses have been found positive for mosquito breeding and more than 13 lakh houses have been sprayed in Delhi this year so far, said the report.
