Egg recall: 24 more people sickened in multistate salmonella outbreak

Another 24 people have been impacted by the salmonella outbreak linked to shell eggs from Gravel Ridge Farms, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

That brings the total to 38 cases from seven states.

The company said it recalled packages containing one dozen and 2 1/2 dozen eggs in cardboard containers with UPC code 7-06970-38444-6.

The recalled eggs have "best if used by" dates of July 25, 2018, through Oct. 3, 2018, and were sold in grocery stores and to restaurants in Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee.

Since the recall announcement in September, five more states reported ill people: Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, Ohio, and Montana.

Gravel Ridge Farms is warning customers to not eat, sell or serve the recalled eggs. Customers are urged to return them to the store for a refund or throw them away.

No deaths have been reported.

CDC experts say people get sick from salmonella 12-72 hours after swallowing the germ and experience diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.

Most people recover within a week, but some illnesses can last longer and be more severe.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials will provide more information as it becomes available.
