Gulgong trainer Brett Thompson has been fined $6400 after Morotai tested positive to a prohibited sedative following the Maiden Plate (1100m) at the Forbes Jockey Club on August 6.

Racing NSW stewards this week inquired into analyst’s findings relative to a urine sample obtained from Morotai following the gelding’s first placing.
The sample was found to contain the sedative 4-hydroxy xylazine (which is banned under AR 178B) and Thompson was fined $6000.
Morotai was disqualified from the race in question.
In assessing the penalty, stewards took into consideration Thompson’s not guilty plea, his clean record in over ten years of training, his personal circumstances and the fact Morotai was disqualified.
Thompson will appeal the finding and was unable to comment at this time.
Thompson did plead guilty to failing to record details of a sedation treatment which was administered to Morotai on July 31 and fined the sum of $400.
