According to a gofundme page set up by his NSW paramedic peers, Mr Bawden was “taken ill” on September 15.
He spent 16 days in a critical condition in the intensive care unit at Canberra Hospital, but fortunately now his condition is no longer critical.
It is understood the Eden father of three will soon be attending rehabilitation in Canberra, but it is expected the recovery time will be extensive.
Meningococcal disease is a rare but serious bacterial infection that can be fatal if not treated in time.
