Sentinel chickens detect West Nile Virus in Pahokee

The West Nile Virus, which was first detected in the Jupiter Farms area,then Belle Glade, has now shown up in Pahokee, according to the Palm Beach County Health Department.

Sentinel chickens detected the virus, the Health Department said.

"We haven’t had a confirmed human case of West Nile Virus since 2011, said Health Director, Dr. Alina Alonso in a statement.

It is normally spread by mosquito bites.

She reminds you to protect yourself against the insects when you go outside and to get rid of standing water near your home or business.
