All Hastings beaches were closed on Monday due to dangerous conditions with heavy swell and rolling sets of large waves battering the coastline.
Lifeguards encouraged people not to enter the water after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe weather warning and dangerous surf warning for the east coast.
It was the second day of dangerous surf conditions with all beaches except for Town and North Haven closed to the public on Sunday.
The Bureau predicts showers and the chance of thunderstorms for the Mid North Coast right through until Sunday.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) winds will be northeasterly 15 to 20 km/h becoming light early in the morning then becoming east to northeasterly 15 to 25 km/h in the morning. Powerful surf conditions are expected to persist.
The advice for anyone thinking about going to the beach is:
- People should consider staying out of the water and avoid walking near surf-exposed areas.
- Rock fishers should avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
- Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
- Boaters already on the water should carry the appropriate safety equipment and wear a lifejacket.
- Boaters should remember to log on with their local Marine Rescue radio base, via VHF Radio or the Marine Rescue APP, and consider their safety management plan.
