Rabid Fox Found In East Brunswick, Rabid Bat In North Brunswick

On Oct. 5, an East Brunswick homeowner's dog killed a fox that turned out to have rabies. The dog was bitten during the fight.

EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — Someone's dog killed a fox that turned out to have rabies in East Brunswick, and the fox bit the dog, the Middlesex County health department said.

This happened on Friday, Oct. 5 and the same day a rabid bat was also caught flying around someone's home in North Brunswick.

The rabid fox was found in the vicinity of South Drive and Kirklin Place on Oct. 5, county health officials said. A resident called 911 that day to report that their dog had bitten a fox. The fox's carcass was sent to the New Jersey Department of Health Laboratory for testing and the results came back last Thursday that it was positive for rabies. Fortunately, the dog was up to date on rabies shots.
