The Arkansas Department of Health confirms the first death linked to influenza so far this flu season.

Public Information Officer Meg Mirivel says it occurred in an adult in the 45- to 64-year-old age range.

A mass flu clinic will be held at the State Fair Grounds Hall of Industry, located on Roosevelt Rd., on October 30 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Those interested should bring their insurance cards with them. If they do not have insurance, the vaccine will be available at no charge.

Last flu season was the worst the state has seen in the three decades, health officials report.

Mirivel says the department has seen more flu cases this season compared to the same time last year. While this does not mean this season will be worse, Mirivel says it is concerning and she encourages Arkansans to get a flu shot.

While the department sees flu cases year round, it says the official season begins in October.
