Yorktown issues boil order until Wednesday

All Yorktown residents have been instructed to boil water until further notice.

YORKTOWN -- At 5 p.m. on Saturday, the town of Yorktown issued a boil order on its town Facebook page. The notice explained a water main break downtown meant residents in the area needed to boil all cooking and drinking water until further notice.

According to Yorktown Town Mangaer Pete Olson, the ruptured pipe is near the town's library on W. Adeline Street. The pipe ruptured just before 5 p.m.

Olson confirmed late Saturday night the order is in place for the entire town, anyone using the Yorktown water system. He expects the order to last until Wednesday.

Olson noted the water is safe to use to wash dishes, clothes and shower. But any water this is going to be consumed should be boiled.

Yorktown schools emailed a noticed to parents Saturday night highlighting the boil order. The email said no drinking fountains will be available until the boil order is lifted. Students are encouraged to bring their own bottled water until the issue is resolved. The school system will be providing bottled water, too, the email said.
