AHMEDABAD: Sanjay Doriya, a resident of Amraiwadi, who was married just 10 months ago is mourning the death of his wife Rekha who was a third-year nursing student. Rekha died on Thursday morning with several complications which included jaundice, pneumonia, kidney failure, and at the end she was suspected to have swine flu. On Wednesday, the doctors advised IGM Leptospira test.

Doriya is still not aware why his wife died. The test result is still to arrive. He claimed that his wife died due to negligence of Shardaben Hospital authorities who did not inform him that his wife was suffering from swine flu and pneumonia. He alleged that the death of his wife was due to negligence of doctors at Shardaben Hospital, as they should have shifted her to Civil Hospital after her condition became criticall.
Doriya said his wife had been pregnant and on October 8 she started vomiting and had loose motion. She was taken to her gynaecologist who further referred her to another physician. The doctor gave her medicine for five days as her laboratory report showed that she was suffering from pneumonia. Suddenly at night she developed severe pain in the stomach and was taken to the general physician, who said it was pregnancy pain. But the gynaecologist said she needed to be shifted to an ICU and hence she was taken to a government hospital. “My family took her to Shardaben Hospital where doctors said she had 10% jaundice which had increased from 4% despite treatment. The doctors at Shardaben delivered the baby boy and later started treatment. But Rekha stopped passing stools and her body started swelling,” said Doriya. He added, “The doctors carried out dialysis. When her situation worsened, I called up AMC officials including the mayor and deputy mayor and on Monday a senior doctor visited Rekha. She was then shifted to Civil Hospital where she died on Thursday morning.”
