Karnataka: 10 new swine flu cases detected in DK

MANGALURU: As many as 10 new cases of H1N1 (swine flu) have been detected in the past 10 days, said district health officer N Ramakrishna Rao.Speaking to TOI in the wake of a spurt of swine flu cases in the Dakshina Kannada district from the past 20 days, Rao said 10 positive cases have been detected across the district. "Since they died due to other ailments, their death cannot be considered to be caused by H1N1," he added. "All the infected patients are undergoing treatment. Earlier, Mayyadi, the husband of Avamma, suspected that his wife died due to swine flu, but Rao denied this and said he died due to other ailments.Rao added that all the victims died due to other ailments which they were suffering from before they were infected with H1N1. Meanwhile, health workers have intensified surveillance across the Dakshina Kannada district for more such cases," he added.Asked about the death, audit committee formed to give a final report on four suspected deaths due to H1N1, Rao said all four of the victims died due to different ailments, even though they were suffering from a contagious respiratory disease.The four victims suspected of dying due to swine flu include, Avamma(48), and her daughter Zabina(23), a resident of Sajipanadu, Abudullah (50), a resident of Malluru and Jamila (38), a resident of Halekote in Ullal.
