Rabid Fox Found In Radnor Township: Officials

A resident spotted a fox in his yard last week, then it was dead the next morning. Officials said it tested positive for rabies.

RADNOR TOWNSHIP, PA – A dead fox found in the yard of a Radnor Township home was rabid, township officials confirmed Monday.

According to the township, the fox was seen by a resident on the 700 block of Newtown Road in the Villanova section Wednesday, Oct. 24.

The following day, the same fox was still in the yard but was dead.

That resident said the fox was acting strangely and came close to the home's porch.

Officials said the body was taken to a lab for rabies testing and the results showed the fox was in fact rabid when it died.

The township provided the following tips for residents:

  • Pets should be kept current with their rabies vaccination including indoor pets.
  • Dogs and Cats should be restricted to supervised and controlled outdoor activity.
  • Don’t feed or touch wild animals, avoid contact with stray animals or pets other than your own.
  • Report any unusual behavior in stray or wild animals. Contact 911 immediately.
  • Rabid animals tend to act aggressive, and/or vicious, or may appear drunk and/or have trouble
