Driver faces impaired charges

A 44-year-old Powassan man faces charges after failing a roadside sobriety check Monday.

Ontario Provincial Police from the Powassan detachment were on patrol shortly after 2:40 p.m. on Main Street when they stopped a vehicle.

While speaking with the driver, officers detected the odour of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The driver was arrested at the scene and was taken to the Powassan OPP for breath tests.

The driver is charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol and driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in his blood.

The accused was issued a 90-day automatic drivers licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The man was released on a promise to appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in North Bay Nov. 20.
