302 swine flu deaths reported in state this year

Mumbai: Around 302 people have succumbed to the H1N1 virus so far this year in the state. According to the state health surveillance officer, Pradip Awate, out of 325 people affected wi-th swine flu, 25 are critical and 10 have been put on the ventilator. This ye-ar, the swine flu virus af-fected 2,375 people betw-een January and October.

Dr Awate said, “So far, 302 deaths due to swine flu have been reported in the state this year.”

In 2017, there were 778 reported H1N1 deaths in the state. “Between January 1 and October 30 this year, there have been 2,375 reported cases of swine flu in the state. Of those, 1,745 people have been treated and discharged,” said Dr Awate.

However, deaths due to swine flu have significantly declined this year as around 700 people died in 2017. This year, the number of death due to H1N1 spiked in July, August and September.

The medicos said that diabetic patients and people suffering from hypertension are at higher risk of this communicable disease. They must immediately consult a doctor if they show symptoms like cough or cold. If treated within a span of two days after the detection of the disease, chances of recovery are higher.

Dr Awate also said “Only about 5 to 6 per cent of people suffering from swine flu have been adm-itted to the hospital. The rest are receiving oral medication at home. However, avoid self-medication.”
