MUMBAI: Around 30 residents of Sector 8 in Charkop have reportedly taken ill due to contaminated drinking water for over a week. Residents said they were afraid the conditions would worsen.
Tejal Nair, a resident of Sai Siddhi Society, said all 72 flats in their society have been receiving contaminated water. “We found black water coming out, it was stinking. My daughter took ill because of it.
There is uncertainty about when the problem will be solved,” said Nair. Another resident, Mili Shetty, said prima facie, sewage water had entered the municipal drinking water system. “Residents are suffering because of this, as the entire Diwali festive period has gone with us receiving contaminated water,” she said.
Civic officials said that they were aware of the issue, and have been trying to find out where the fault was. “The entire pipeline was flushed but the problem persists. We will undertake fresh checks on Saturday,” said a civic official.
Corporator Sandhya Doshi said the locality had been facing the problem from the time of the monsoon. “I have informed ward officials to solve the problem, as it will not take time for citizens to come out on the streets if such water is continued to be supplied to them,” said Doshi.
