Medical Store Implicated In Anti-Rabies Vaccine Scam

Authorities at the Central Medical Store at New England Ville in Freetown have been accused of poorly administering the Anti-Rabies Vaccine to victims of dog bites.

According to reliable sources, the authorities are in the habit of buying the Anti-Rabies Vaccine from a private pharmacy known as Kay-Tee Star, situated at Abacha Street, to the tune of Le100,000 per bottle and this is then diluted and sold at Le 50,000 per bottle to victims of rabies.

The question being asked by medically inclined persons is how could somebody buy exorbitantly and sell to its customers at a reduced prize without any hidden agenda?

On Saturday, one concerned citizen with medical knowledge who claimed to have been bitten by a dog, speaking on condition of anonymity, explained that the previous Saturday, he went to the Medical Store for an Anti-Rabies Vaccine to take care of the dog bite, but was not satisfied with the method of administration. He stressed that the Anti-Rabies Vaccine bottle had no label from which one could determine its manufacture and expiry date. Unsatisfied and desirous of taking the vaccine, he approached another worker at the Medical Store and explained to him that, he was not satisfied with the method of administering the vaccine to people. He was then told not to waste his time but to go straight to Kay-Tee Star Pharmacy where the vaccine is sold.

According to the disappointed man, all vaccines including Anti-Snake Venom and Rabies must not be sold in private medical stores except in the Central Medical Store, because the store has Cold Chain to prevent the vaccine from quick expiration. He called on the Government through the Ministry of Health and Sanitation to institute measures that would prevent the indiscriminate supply of vaccines to persons with little or no medical knowledge about vaccines. He also called on the Freetown City Council (FCC) to come up with a plan to rid the city streets of stray dogs.

Investigations conducted by this medium revealed that officials at the Medical Store have stopped Kay-Tee Star Pharmacy from selling the Anti-Rabbis Vaccine to outsiders except to the Central Medical Store, so as to make more money through the liquid substance that they allegedly dilute with the vaccine to the detriment of victims.
