TAGBILARAN CITY -- There were 40 patients who died of dengue out of the 2,633 cases in Bohol from January until November 17 this year, a provincial official said on Tuesday.

Dr. Cezar Tomas Lopez, the provincial point person on the dengue situation, presented the report based on the latest available data from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (RESU) of the Department of Health (DOH) during the Provincial Health Board meeting at the capitol.

During the meeting, health authorities pointed out the laxity in the search and destroy aspect and the delayed treatment as among the factors that contributed to the increase in cases of dengue in the province.

In this light, government and health authorities are pushing to strictly follow the dengue treatment protocol and provide dengue fast lanes in public hospitals in the province.

The local health board also recommended to intensify the search and destroy campaign in addition to the dengue school brigades and information and education campaigns. (PNA)
