The Florida Department of Health in Seminole County is offering free hepatitis A vaccinations because of the growing number of cases.

So far this year, there have been 385 cases statewide, according to the Florida Department of Health. That’s three times more than the five-year average of 126.

“The hepatitis A virus is a vaccine-preventable disease. We continue to educate and encourage high-risk populations to get vaccinated and prevent hepatitis infection through our Hepatitis Prevention Program and community outreach,” Donna Walsh, health officer for the Florida Department of Health in Seminole County, said in a news release.

Symptoms of hepatitis A include yellowing of the skin and eyes, fever, fatigue, loss of appetite, abdominal pain and dark urine.

Seminole County will offer vaccinations from 8:45 a.m. to noon Dec. 19 at Shepherd’s Hope Health Center, 600 N. U.S. Highway 17-92, Longwood. To schedule an appointment, call 407-665-3243 or visit www.seminolecohealth.com.

The county will offer vaccinations again from Jan. 24 to Feb. 21 at the same location.
