The Woodford County Health Department says a former McDonald's worker in Versailles has tested positive for hepatitis A.

The worker was employed at the restaurant until Dec. 1, and the worker's symptoms began Dec. 6.

The risk of customers being infected is very low.

The owner/operator of the restaurant said it is working closely with the health department to ensure the safety of employees and customers.

The best practices to avoid getting hepatitis A are to get vaccinated and exercise proper handwashing practices.

Health experts say symptoms of hepatitis A are fatigue, decreased appetite, stomach pain, nausea, darkened urine, pale stools and jaundice. People can become ill 15-50 days after being exposed to the virus. Anyone experiencing symptoms should seek medical attention.
