Raj records third highest no of dengue cases

Jaipur: Despite measures taken to prevent dengue, the state has not only recorded highest number of cases in past 21 years, but it has also third highest number of dengue cases numbering 8,490 in the country. Reporting cases of dengue in winters was not a normal trend. It was unusual that the state had reported dengue cases in winters.Taking note of it, the state government had taken decision in May to make it compulsory for doctors and diagnostic centres to send details of each and every case of dengue reported at their clinics, hospitals and diagnostic centres. In February, March and April, the state had reported 248, 237 and 239 cases, respectively. In campaign launched from May 1 to June 30, the health department launched a campaign Mera Ganv Swastha Ganv, in which health teams had detected 1.1 lakh sites of larvae breeding in houses in the state.

The state is quite close to Maharashtra with 9,451 cases, which is at second spot in the list, shows National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP).Punjab is leading the table with highest number of cases numbering 13,760, says NVBDCP report that was issued recently showing figures up to November 25. In May the state had declared dengue as notifiable disease. The decision was taken for categorising dengue as notifiable disease along with swine flu and malaria by the state government as in January, February, March and April, the state had reported increased number of dengue cases.In January 449 cases were reported in the state. In February, March and April, the state had reported 248, 237 and 239 cases, respectively. Reporting cases of dengue in winters was not a normal trend. On the basis of the reports received from doctors and diagnostic centres, the health department takes measures to prevent any outbreak of dengue in the state.During Swasthya Dal Aapke Dwar, a campaign launched by the health department from May 21 to March 23, the health department had found larvae of mosquitoes from more than one lakh sites in houses. In campaign launched from May 1 to June 30, the health department launched a campaign Mera Ganv Swastha Ganv, in which health teams had detected 1.1 lakh sites of larvae breeding in houses in the state. A third campaign was launched from July 16 to July 18, Hamara Swasthya Hamari Zimmedari, in which over one lakh mosquito breeding sites were found across the state.Till November 25 in 2018, Rajasthan had reported 8,490 cases which further increased to 9,279 till December 12.
