New numbers from the centers for disease control show Louisiana is one of nine states with the highest number of flu cases.

NBC 6/Fox 33 visited a Willis Knighton Quick Care Center in Shreveport and were told, they’re starting to see cases of the flu.  However locally it’s not at a high level and they’re also seeing “flu like” illnesses.

Dr. Stephen Smith expects to see more cases once children start returning to school next week.

“It’s very contagious.  A cough.  A sneeze.  You can spread it very easily.  Your hands.  One kid playing another.  A playground ball.  It’s a very contagious illness and can be spread easily.”

Smith wants parents to know the importance of keeping their kids at home if they show any flu like symptoms.
