Flu cases on the rise in Mississippi

The Mississippi State Department of Health says more cases of flu are being reported around the state.
The state health officer, Dr. Thomas Dobbs, says this includes outbreaks in nursing homes.
Dobbs says in a news release that peak flu season in Mississippi usually begins in January and lasts through March. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the main flu strain circulating now is H1N1, which tends to affect children.
Mississippi has had one pediatric flu death this season. Dobbs says flu shots are recommended for people 6 months and older.
