DOH: Suspected food poisoning victims should take lots of water to avoid dehydration

The Department of Health (DOH) reminded the public to take appropriate measures in case of food poisoning.

In a report by James Agustin on GMA's Saksi on Tuesday, the DOH advised the suspected food poisoning victims to drink lots of water to prevent dehydration.

Samples of the food that victims consumed and may have been the source of food poisoning should be kept so that experts may use it for an investigation.

After consulting a doctor, prescribed medicines should be taken as instructed.

The reminder was issued after two incidents of food poisoning were separately reported in Mindanao. Victims were supposedly downed by noodles that they ate.

In Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur five siblings were rushed to the hospital after experiencing stomach ache, vomiting, and diarrhea.

The mother of the children said the victims ate a serving of Pancit Bihon that was bought from their school's canteen.

According to the initial results of an investigation, the noodle dish was placed in a plastic bag before it was consumed by the children at home.

The school principal said their cafeteria was careful in food handling and that the food was not spoiled when it was sold. Otherwise, other students would have been affected too which is not the case.

The five siblings are now safe.

In Cagayan de Oro City in Misamis Oriental, the food poisoning incident was allegedly caused by Pancit Bam-i.

The dish was served during a gathering of farmers in Barangay Dansolihon.

Over 30 residents, mostly children, experienced vomiting and other symptoms of food poisoning after they consumed the meal.
