Wigan Infirmary ward reopens after norovirus outbreak

Wigan Infirmary has reopened a ward which had been closed due to a suspected norovirus outbreak.

Patients started to be admitted to the ward on Thursday evening after a "full terminal clean" was carried out.

Other news: Wigan men can enter Race For Life for first timeBut a spokesman for Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust, which runs the hospital, said: "We would advise that viral gastroenteritis is still present in the community so patients and visitors should refrain from coming into the hospital if they are suffering symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting."

The ward was shut on Saturday due to the outbreak.

It followed the closure of another ward for three days last week after an outbreak of flu.
