Number of Malaria cases down to 97 from 179 in Kozhikode

When all other communicable diseases showed an upward trend in Kozhikode, the health department has succeeded in combating the Malaria cases that has gifted headache to the officials over the years. The joint efforts taken by the district administration and health department with the help of Local Self Government Bodies have helped to bring down Malaria cases below 100 in 2018.

KOZHIKODE: When all other communicable diseases showed an upward trend in Kozhikode, the health department has succeeded in combating the Malaria cases that has gifted headache to the officials over the years. The joint efforts taken by the district administration and health department with the help of Local Self Government Bodies have helped to bring down Malaria cases below 100 in 2018.
According to the health department officials, number of Malaria cases have come down to 97 in in 2018 from 179 Malaria cases in 2017.
Only one Malaria case has been reported in 2019, January so far. The health department has also succeeded in bringing down the number of indigenous Malaria cases to just six in 2018 from 37 in 2017. It was168 Malaria cases and one death in 2016.
Intensive seashore activities under the direct guidance of district collector along with officials of three harbors helped to garner public support for the cause. The city corporation had conducted intensive drive against Malaria on the coastal belt with the active support of the public.
Additional district medical officer Dr Ashadevi (Public Health) said that it’s a proud moment for the district health department. `` number of indigenous malaria cases have also come down drastically. Garima project launched by the district administration ensured periodical check-up at migrant camps and rented houses. The effective migrant screening and mosquito eradication drive have resulted in decline in Malaria cases,’’ said Dr Ashadevi.
