DOCTORS from the Gat Andres Bonifacio Memorial Medical Center in Tondo, Manila, which closed the emergency unit for disinfection after a patient exhibited signs of meninggococcemia, advised the public to remain “calm” and assured them that a meningococcal infection was “rare.”

The GABMMC closed down on January 23 but reopened the next day after sterilizing the place and providing people who have been exposed to the patient who was suspected initially of having meningococcemia with prophylaxis as part of the standard safety procedure and infection control protocol.
