Police are investigating after a homeless man was deliberately set on fire in a park.

West Midlands Police said it is believed the man was sleeping when two people poured lighter fluid over his hands and set him alight.

Officers said the victim was initially thought to have suffered “severe burns” during the attack in the Swanswell Park and Pool area of Coventry.

The force said the incident happened some time between 10pm on Saturday, January 26 and the early hours of the following day.

The attack has sparked outrage on social media, with people branding it “sick and cruel” and “vile”.
