Kyasanur Forest disease (KFD) is colloquially referred to as monkey fever.
District Nodal Officer Prashanth Bhat said that carcasses of four monkeys had decomposed. Another monkey died of electrocution. A total of 75 monkeys were found dead in the district so far.
A man from Brahmavar and a woman from Sagara who came to Udupi to take part in a village fair are suspected to be suffering from monkey fever said, Bhat. He added that blood samples of the two suspected KFD cases were sent to the laboratory for confirmation. The test results are likely to reach doctors on Saturday.
The bodies of 28 dead monkeys in Udupi were sent to the laboratory in Shivamogga for autopsy. Doctors now have test reports for 23 suspected KFD cases. Of the suspected cases, 12 dead monkeys tested positive for KFD and 11 monkeys tested negative, Bhat explained.
