Three die in Vadodara of swine flu, four test positive

VADODARA: Three persons died of swine flu in the city within just 24 hours since Thursday night.
The deaths reported since Thursday night at different private hospitals in the city include that of a 66-year-old woman residing in Karelibaug, a 62-year-old man residing in Ganesh Park in Waghodiya taluka bordering the city and a 52-year-old woman from Bharuch who was being treated in the city.

The feared flu has raised its head in the city and surrounding areas of the Vadodara district over the last one month. Fresh cases of swine flu have been trickling in steadily and as many as 54 persons have tested positive for the flu in the city limits since January 1.
Besides the deaths, four other persons from the city tested positive for swine flu. The fresh cases include a 13-year-old boy from Harni Road, a 38-year-old man from Laxmipura, a 40-year-old woman from Soma Talav and a 72-year-old man from the Tandalja area. All the patients have been admitted to different private hospitals in the city.
According to official data, so far seven persons from the city and two from the Vadodara district outside city limits have died due to the flu. Officials claim that a majority of deaths were in cases were of patients had other health complications too.
So far, 54 persons from the city have tested positive for the flu. Also, 11 from Vadodara district were found suffering from the viral infection.
Most of these 11 cases are of persons residing in areas near the city. Some others from outside the district have also tested positive during treatment in the city.
