Rabid Raccoon Found In Middletown Jan. 26

The raccoon was found by a resident on Roop Avenue between Burlington and Center avenues on January 26.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — A raccoon found in Middletown last Saturday has tested positive for rabies, the Township announced.

The raccoon was found by a resident on Roop Avenue between Burlington and Center avenues on January 26; the resident called 911. Middletown Animal Control captured the raccoon and it was sent to the state laboratory for testing.

Laboratory results received Friday, February 1 confirmed it was rabid, the Twp. said in a press release.

Residents are reminded to stay away from wild animals and call the Twp. health department or 911 if they see a wild animal acting strangely or aggressively.
