GURUGRAM: The confirmed cases of
swine flu in the city rose to 59 on Tuesday with 11 patients testing positive in the past two days. A 58-year-old
woman, who was undergoing treatment for swine flu at a private hospital in the city since January 4, also reportedly succumbed to the disease on Tuesday.
The health department is yet to confirm it to be a swine flu death as the woman’s swab test report is awaited from the national centre for disease control (NCDC).
“The woman also suffered from acute coronary
syndrome, type 2 diabetes melitis, hypertension and
acute kidney injury with metabolic asitosis. We cannot confirm this as a swine flu death till we get a confirming report from NCDC. Although, according to the private hospital’s laboratory, the patient was infected with H1N1 virus,” said Dr Jaibhagwan Jaitan, district malaria officer.
This is the second death due to suspected swine flu in the city this month. On January 17, a 49-year-old man had died after being infected from the virus.
According to the health department, there are around 125
suspected cases in the city who are being treated at different hospitals for swine flu-like
symptoms. “Of the 59 confirmed cases, 29 patients are from the city, while 30 others are from others cities,” a health department official said.
Earlier on Monday, the district health department conducted a workshop to spread awareness among health workers about swine flu.
