Officials for McLennan County Health Services reported over 1,000 flu cases in the last week of January, and they say that number could double by their next report.

Kelly Craine from McLennan County Health Services says the county is in "peak" flu season.

"Every flu season is unique. Typically they run October through March, and we are seeing that peak right now."

Doctor Tim Martindale agrees this is peak flu season and urges patients to not fight through the sickness without seeing a physician.

“For both flu and strep which are really high right now we really want to see our doctor pretty fast. In many other cases with colds you say 'oh see if you can get over it'... With flu if you catch it within the first one or two days, you can take a medicine that might make a difference.”
