The number of flu-related deaths in Clark County for the season is up to 13, according to new figures from local health officials.

That figure is up from eight deaths reported by Jan. 19, according to the Southern Nevada Health District.

Of the deaths so far, six people have been age 65 and older, four between 50 and 64, two between 25 and 49, and one child 4 or younger.

In addition to the fatalities, 423 people have been hospitalized as of Feb. 2. More than half of those cases are for people age 50 or older.

Health officials write that flu activity spiked nationally and remained elevated locally.
