A raccoon infected with rabies has been found in the northwest area of Warren County, Virginia.

The Lord Fairfax Health District reported that a rabid raccoon has interacted with a dog near Knob Lane and Bowman Hollow Road on February 4.

A separate rabid raccoon was found in Linden, Virginia on January 28.

Officials urge residents to seek the nearest emergency department if bitten, scratched, or even exposed to the saliva of a rabid animal.
