Hooch liquor tragedy: UP govt constitutes SIT to probe case, 215 arrested so far

In the recent development in the hooch illicit liquor tragedy, the Uttar Pradesh government constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the deaths.

Lucknow: In the recent development in the hooch tragedy, the Uttar Pradesh government on Sunday constituted a five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the deaths due to consumption of illicit liquor. 

News agency ANI reported that the police have arrested two people in connection with Kushinagar hooch tragedy, said Superintendent of Police Rajeev Narayan Mishra on Sunday. The incident has claimed over 100 lives in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh.  

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has already announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased. And Rs 50,000 each to those who are undergoing treatment in various hospitals across Uttar Pradesh.

Also, the Eastern Uttar Pradesh General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra too expressed grief over the death of more than 100 people. She has also demanded an appropriate compensation and provision of government jobs for kin of the deceased.

 

 

The increasing death toll has forced the government officials to launch a major crackdown to nab those responsible for distribution of illicit liquor in the states and its neighbouring regions.  The police have arrested 215 people while investigating the case. While the number of deaths due to the consumption of spurious liquor is constantly rising, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh stated that the tragedy might be a part of a conspiracy.
