Indigo Brewers Yeast Recalled for Undeclared Peanuts

Indigo Natural Foods in Canada is recalling their Packaged Goodness brand Brewers Yeast Debittered for undeclared peanuts, one of the major food allergens. Anyone who is allergic to peanuts, an ingredient that can cause the most serious reactions, including anaphylactic shock, could become ill if they eat this product. One reaction has been reported. The recall was triggered by this complaint.

The recalled product is Indigo Packaged Goodness Brewers Yeast Debittered in 400 gram packages. All units sold from October 24, 2018 up to and including February 7, 2019 are included in this recall. The UPC number on the product isĀ 6 99692 00659 1.

If you purchased this product and are allergic to peanuts, throw it away. You can also take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The symptoms of an allergic reaction can very, and can happen almost immediately or take a couple of hours to manifest. Early symptoms can include tingling of the lips, mouth, and tongue; itching, hives, and nasal congestion. If the reaction is allowed to progress, more serious symptoms such as swelling of the lips, tongue, face, and throat may occur, which may obstruct the airway. People may also suffer from abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. Some people may suffer from anaphylactic shock, which results in decreased blood pressure. Symptoms of anaphylactic shock include difficulty breathing, rapid, weak pulse, and vomiting.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is conducting a food safety investigation into this recall. They may recall other products in connection with this issue. The government its also verifying that the facility is removing the recalled product from the marketplace.
