Jalandhar: On the directions of the state government, Dr Nazar Singh on Tuesday took the charge as new Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO) of the district. Prior to this appointment, Dr Singh was Assistant Marketing Officer in Amritsar and got promoted as the CAO. After taking the charge, he held a meeting with officials. He exhorted them to make each farmer of the district aware about various schemes launched by the state government for the peasantry. He said the Agriculture along with other departments such as Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Fishery, Irrigation and Forest would prepare joint strategies for ensuring the prosperity of farmers. He also asked them to keep a vigil on wheat crop fields as the weather conditions were suitable for the yellow rust disease and asked peasants to spray their wheat crop with 200 ml (per acre) propiconazole if they notice yellow-coloured, powdery linear stripes on it.
