Whilst last season was a veritable menagerie of animalistic prints, from leopard and tiger to snake and zebra, on and off the runway, this season we’ve noticed a slightly more (pain) quotidian trend ruling the sartorial roost.

Though millennial mint, zebra-print and feathers are alive and kicking as major trends this time around, it's neutrals that have truly been the headline act of both New York and London Fashion weeks.

On the front row, as well as the catwalk, there has been a feast of milk-coloured creams, through to burn-toast browns - we’re calling it tea and toast dressing and we never thought the great British tea time could be so chic.

During New York Fashion Week, newly-on-schedule Khaite showed a tulle gown in nude, alongside suede and fringed two-pieces in russet, whilst ELLE-favourite Nanushka played with sand tones for knitwear and tailoring.

At London Fashion Week, former Fashion East member Asai swapped his typical bold colour scheme for tans and taupe, whilst A.W.A.K.E.'s rust, leather, pleat-skirted macs made us swoon.

Rejina Pyo's ever-wearable collection featured coats and skirts in the same high-shine chocolatey coloured material, which the designer offset with ice-cream hues.

Pounding the pavements, editors and bloggers alike kept to the tan theme, Dutch colour-phile, Stephanie Broek pared-down her typically jazzy ensemble with a trench in London, whilst Eva Chen, director of fashion partnerships at Instagram, looked joyful in her tonal outfit whilst in New York.

In fact, post London Fashion Week, searches for trench coats were up a wopping 4500% on LIKEtoKNOW.it, showing the trend's star's stock is going up.

Harling Ross of Man Repeller has been repping her ‘stick of butter’ look - the term she coined for her predominately beige outfits - for a while now, and it looks like the rest of the fashion crowd has followed, and you can too.

Topshop currently stocks the perfect tan dress, whilst Jacquemus' wheat-coloured skirt is on our to buy list for summer.

After seasons of ‘more is more’ dressing, heralded by Gucci and championed by the Scandi style bloggers, it looks like the tides maybe turning to a more toned-down aesthetic.

Whether it’s the Meghan Markle effect in action (the Duchess is famous for her understated and sophisticated style), or many taking Riccardo Tisci’s minimalist, inaugural Burberry SS19 show's lead, we're following suit with a snack of an outfit in the form of tea and toast.
